They offer something totally unique to the local scene with their striking visual performance and distinctive sound. Producer and well-versed pop composer, Sean Ross combines his talents with classically trained violinist, Caley Garden. Together they project classical sensibilities onto a digital landscape creating a sound that is broad, yet intricate, enigmatic and uplifting. Their performance combines electronic elements with live string quartet, creating a visually captivating and ethereal atmosphere that is totally unique to the South African scene. They released their debut EP, We Become All We Are in October 2022 and are currently working on new music. Black Math is a three-piece band originally from Durban, South Africa. The band consists of Tyla Burnett (Bass Guitar), Cameron Lofstrand (Guitar/Vocals) and Acacia Van Wyk (Drums). Forming in 2010, they were friends in high school who shared a deep love for music. Over the years they made a name for themselves in the South African music scene and have grown into the power trio they are today. The music is raw, unforgiving and will hit you when you least expect it. They have developed their own sound that draws from genres like doom, noise rock, garage, psychedelic rock, punk and metal. They formed in 2019 and after playing a round of live shows in 2022, released their debut single 'Sort Yourself Out' in November 2022. The band ended off the year by playing their last show at District, Cape Town where they opened for legendary, Bellville based rock band aKING. In March 2023, they released their next single 'Vodka and Smoke'. This took the band in to more of a heavier musical direction, with a harder, rockier sound. Their sound can be described as a mixture of 'Queens of the Stone Age' and 'Arctic Monkeys'. The Cinematic Rejects are here to save cinema by making music instead. Strutting the line between the tight, energetic grooves of the Arctic Monkeys and the raw emotional wildness of My Chemical Romance’s The Black Parade, The Cinematic Rejects bring a new energy to a familiar sound that is guaranteed to get the party started!

In the 10th installment of the Friday Night Live series, we are joined by Giuliette Price, a lover, singer/songwriter and performer studying jazz vocals at UCT South African College of Music. Giuliette’s style, sound and taste is being refined with every performance they do, playing under the summer sun of festivals and romantic dim lights of bars and restaurants - Giuliette’s originals tell captivating stories that explore love, lust, heartbreak and everything else in between. Giuliette takes the stage this time with an incredible band of jazz musicians who breathe life into each composition including: Luke van Eeden on drums, Joshua Nemaire on bass, Nobuhle Ashunti on piano, and B-Rae on trumpet. Giuliette’s quintet draws influence on jazz, bossa nova, indie, pop and soul in Giuliette’s originals that make the songs infectious. Each performance is interpreted differently to keep audience members on their toes. Hailing from the South-east coast of Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa, Wren Hinds grew up with a musician for a father and a landscape painter for a mother. As a kid, watching his dad recording and overdubbing inspired Wren to keep a tape recorder with him, recording whatever and wherever he could. Later, he would compare the layering of instruments and textures to the mediums and paints of his mother’s chosen artform. For Wren, songwriting became “painting with sound”, using light, shade and a sense of space to communicate powerful impressions and feelings.

He has been on the scene as a bass player for some of the best bands to come out of South Africa He’s played for De Wallen, Son of Hawk and most recently for Afrikaans award-winning rocker and songwriter, Jan Blohm. He has played at some of the biggest festivals in South Africa like Oppikoppi. He’s also played sets at Alternatief Is Groot & The Bokkies Awards Show. When the lockdown happened and work was non-existent, Ashley did not stop, he decided it was time to start working on his own material. This material had been on ice for years as he was busy touring with other bands and projects as a bassist. LUUKHANYO is a South African R&B-rapper based in Cape Town. Driven by his desire to translate emotion and feelings into sound, the rapper flirts with a variety of styles and genres, treating them as colours used to paint vivid images in every song, with his songwriting abilities and vocal delivery being the paint brushes. LUUKHANYO has been nurturing his craft since his early teens, going on to release his first Demo in 2020, after turning 22. Musicians such as Black Pumas, Kendrick Lamar, Anderson Paak., Free Nationals, Little Simz, Cleo Soul, Kool and the Gang and more, could be seen as influences to the rapper when taking into account the wide blend of genres that appear in his music. We're heading back to District (above SurfaRosa) for another epic night of live music with Yndian Mynah, Black Math, and Peasant. They have developed their own sound that draws from genres like doom, noise rock, garage, psychedelic rock, punk, and metal. Their live shows are intense, visceral, and intimate. Peasant a is a 5-piece metallic hardcore band.
